Translating Pulse Bridge into Romanian, plurals included
Pulse Bridge now speaks Romanian. The hard part wasn’t the words, it was the numbers.
What I built
The whole app in Romanian: every screen, the Live Activity and the permission prompts. It follows the phone’s language, or you can pick one in Settings. What goes to Apple Health and the diagnostics log stays in English, so bug reports stay readable for anyone.
The daily challenge also got a short text to share with friends, in two lines: “💪 Ziua 37/42. 5 zile la rând” and “✅ 60F/60G”, a count and the first letter of each exercise. The letter follows the share language, so push-ups are F, for flotări.
What I learned
The words were the easy part. Romanian has three plural forms (1 pas, 2 pași, 20 de pași), so every count has to pick its noun from the number instead of gluing a plural onto it.
Translating whole sentences, never fragments, saved a lot of rework. A check in CI now fails the build if a text is missing a translation.
What’s next
Use it every day in both languages and fix whatever real use turns up.
Building something similar, or have a thought on this note? Say hi.
