Rewriting Remember’s hooks in Node.js

Remember’s hooks failed for anyone without Python. Node ships with every Claude Code install, so I rewrote them.

What I built

Remember’s hooks were Python and Bash scripts, and they failed on machines without Python. I rewrote them as five small Node.js scripts with a shared config module and deleted eight Python and Bash files. The hook that runs on every prompt now takes about 49 ms.

The same repo also got an entry point for OpenClaw, so both tools share the same scripts. It went out as v2.0.1, with a new line for the project: “One brain. Every AI tool.”

What I learned

Depend on the runtime your host already guarantees. Claude Code always has Node, so that’s the only dependency worth having.

A smaller one that cost me some time: in a Claude Code plugin, the skill’s folder name is its name. Adding name: to the SKILL.md frontmatter quietly drops the plugin namespace, so /remember:init shows up as plain /init.

What’s next

Getting it in front of more people: launch posts on Hacker News and Reddit, and example brains people can start from.
