Importing the 3D Toys catalog without borrowing photos

A plan for importing products in bulk, and the rule I set for product photos.

What I built

An import pipeline design for the catalog. The starting point is a sheet of verified models with name, category, price range and a license note for each. The import normalises the sheet, maps products and colour variants onto the existing catalog and uploads the images, but it goes through a staging step first. Nothing gets published blindly.

What I learned

The tempting shortcut was to pull the images from the model marketplaces along with everything else. Those images aren’t mine to publish. Unless a model’s license explicitly allows commercial reuse of its images, they stay internal reference.

The photos on the shop come from our own prints, from renders of models we’re allowed to use, or from creators who gave permission. It matters even more for fan-made items.

What’s next

Print samples of the first products, photograph them, then run the first import through staging.
